JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - One of the two girls who went missing from Louisiana has been found dead in Jackson.

On Thursday, an Amber Alert was issued for 4-year-old Erin and 6-year-old girl Jalie after their mother, Callie Brunett was missing for over 24 hours before being found “brutally” slain in her home on North Cooper Road in Loranger, Louisiana.

Thursday afternoon, the body of a girl believed to be Erin was found in the woods along Boozier Drive. Jalie has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

“We have a very active scene here right now. Very traumatic scene,” Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said. “The death of a four-year-old child, but the suspect is in custody.”

The manner of the child’s death has not been determined.

The suspect, according to Wade, is Daniel Callihan. The 36-year-old was arrested by U.S. Marshals after leading authorities on a chase.

Jackson Police officers were called to the 3900 block of Boozier around 2:35 p.m. to assist the Marshals in helping find the suspect after Callihan’s vehicle was spotted.

“After a short pursuit, they made contact with him and he’s now in custody,” Wade said. “Mr. Callihan is also a suspect in a homicide that happened in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana.”

Wade thanked the numerous agencies that assisted, including the Marshals, the Jackson Field Office of the FBI, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, the Byram Police Department, and officials from Tangipahoa Parish.”

“If you know anything that has been happening here on Boozier, please contact the Jackson Police Department,” he said. “We have contacted MBI’s Human Trafficking Division, along with Hinds County’s Human Trafficking Division. We also have our Juvenile Division on the scene.”

“What it looks like, this may be a location where there has been some human trafficking done. We see cages - small animal cages. [It’s] very, very disturbing to me as a police chief, and as a father, to witness and see what I just saw,” he said. “We ask for your prayers and support, and anybody who has any information about what happened here today, please contact the Jackson Police Department, the U.S. Marshals, or [the] Jackson FBI.”
