Small Dog Steals Baby's Sweatpants Right Off Him

We don’t know what it is about little kids and dogs but dogs love to steal the pants off of little kids. We mean, right off them. One minute the kid or baby is wearing pants or shorts and the next the dog has taken them off and wandered away with them. The little dog in this video takes the sweatpants right off of a baby who is crawling around his house.

Generally speaking though, why do dogs steal our clothes? It turns out there are a number of different reasons for the theft. The obvious one, and why we sometimes come home to destroyed shoes or socks is because the dog thought it would make a nice toy. It also might be a remnant of dogs’ prey instinct. Dogs like soft things because it kind of reminds them of prey like rabbits and rats. So, for a dog, chewing on a sock or shoe reminds them of chewing on a freshly caught meal. Some individual dogs retain the instinct for this more than other ones.

Some dogs, however, are just bored and like creating their own fun. They might just need stimulation from you. The last reason we found, that we believe is more interesting, is because dogs like you. If your clothes aren’t clean and still have your smell in them a dog might steal it. We know that dogs have a stronger sense of smell than we do. All humans have a unique smell as well. Having an item of clothing that smells like their person helps a dog feel closer to them. It is a way for dogs to bond their pack.
