Will A Watermelon Slow Bullets Down? Let's Find Out!!

Got a fun one this week to share! Let's see how much a watermelon will slow down bullets!!
I wanted to do this before it got too hot here and would melt my gel sitting in the 112 degree Oklahoma sun in the summer. I got lucky this Sunday with a cooler afternoon and picked up a few watermelons to test the theory.
I used 9mm, .223, and my 6 Creedmoor.
After this, I can confirm that the watermelon slows down quite a bit!! After hitting the gel after passing through the watermelon, the bullets were caught in the gel. When shot with no obstruction, the 9mm, .223 and 6CM just zipped all the way through both of my 16 inch gel blocks!!

The point of this was to try and show a practical example of how much energy gets dumped into the first object that is hit by a projectile. Even through it made it through the watermelons, it was slowed down a lot as they entered the gel.
This was pretty fun. A lot of work setting things up and trying to catch all the action with my gear. I hope you enjoy seeing this example!

Check the slow motion of the 6CM with no watermelon. I caught the explosion that occurs inside the gel. It was pretty neat to see that from something I did. Very big, violent cavity is opened up and I think as the gel slams closed it compresses and ignited the oxygen trapped inside and makes it explode! Awesome!!
