Hamas seeks 'complete halt' to war in Gazaproposal response | BBC News

Hamas says it has submitted its response to aUS-backed plan for a ceasefire in Gaza. A senior groupofficial told the BBC that it still requires an Israelicommitment to a permanent ceasefire.

In a statement, the group, and its Palestinian IslamicJihad allies, said they were ready "to engage positivelyto reach an agreement that ends this war".

Earlier on Tuesday US Secretary of State AntonyBlinken said Israeli Prime Minister BenjaminNetanyahu had "reaffirmed his commitment" to the Gaza ceasefire plan.

The proposed ceasefire plan calls for a six-weekceasefire that would eventually become permanent.
