Dinner time allows close friends to catch up and share thoughts on the goings-on in their lives. Kenyan President William Ruto recently was the guest of honour at a state dinner with US President Joe Biden in Washington, giving him an opportunity to put in a word for Gaza, the Congo, Sudan or any number of issues concerning Africans.

That was the essence of Al Jazeera journalist @RediTlhabi's question to Ruto. But, watch as Ruto skirted around the issue, careful not to damage his status as Washington's newest blue-eyed boy.

During the state visit, Biden announced he would recommend to Congress that Kenya be made a major non-NATO ally. If approved, that would make Kenya, far from the Atlantic Ocean, the third African country after Egypt and Morocco to hold the title. For months, Ruto has cheer-led the US-backed Kenyan police deployment in Haiti, as well, to the dismay of his population.
