A synthetic form of morphine called "Crocodil" [[CROCK-oh-DIAL]] is ten time more potent than morphine. Officials say the drug is being used by some because it is cheaper than heroin but has a powerful narcotic effect. Long term use of the drug can cause a person's skin to turn a shade of green and become scaly and increases the risk of blood clots and blocked veins. There is no accepted medical use of the drug in the U.S.
