Majestic Bateleur Eagle Flaunts Its Plumes, Greeting The Sun

A remarkable footage has emerged of a Bateleur eagle spreading its wing feathers in the sun in an attempt to get them dry. The footage, captured in the Kruger National Park based in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, South Africa, shows this majestic bird using sunrays to get warm and dry! What a smart bird! Incredible!

The Bateleur eagle is a true bird of prey and its scientific name ‘Terathopius ecaudatus’ literally means ‘marvellous face, no tail’ in Latin and Greek. This medium-sized eagle is endemic to Africa and small parts of Arabia. Bateleurs are hunters and scavengers, mostly preying pigeons and sandgrouse. The bateleur is generally silent, but on occasions it produces a variety of barks and screams. According to Hawk Creek Education Director Tanya Lowe, the Bateleur eagle is one of ‘the most colorful species of eagles in the world’.
