The doors open day event is a brilliant opportunity for anyone interested in seeing what work goes on behind the scenes at their Central Depot based on Annandale Street where a number of vehicles were on display for members of the public to board.

As part of the day of activities, visitors could ride a bus which took you through the Depot's bus wash where you could experience first what it's like to go through without the need to get wet. There was also remote control bus racing which proved popular with younger children. In 2016, the Lothian Buses Doors Open event supported a number of charities which included Poppy Scotland and Guide Dogs Scotland where visitors could leave a donation within buckets at the doors.

During this year's event, a number of vintage buses ran on the service sixteen between Newhaven and Lothian Road featuring a number of buses which had served the company over the years before being replaced by modern wheel chair friendly replacements.

It was fanastic to see so many people travelling across part of the network on many of the vintage buses taking part in the event where visitors could experience travelling with a bus conductor on board. One hundred volunteers helped out on the day to ensure the event was a success and five thousand pounds was raised for charities.

The event was a massive success and an estimated 10,000 people enjoyed the whole day of activities. Limited edition merchandise was available as well as the opportunity to get a friend or relative's competing with one another as they tackle mini bus racing.

The Doors Open Day event held in Edinburgh forms part of a City wide event called Doors Open Days which is Scotland's biggest architectectural free event which takes place every year. For only a single weekend, hundreds upon hundreds of buildings normally closed to the public are opened for the public to view.
