STUDENTS DEFY SWARTHMORE COLLEGE FOR PALESTINE

Despite a change of venue, graduating students at Swarthmore College in the USA demonstrated their solidarity with Palestine by displaying the Palestinian flag as they walked on stage to accept their degrees during a commencement ceremony on 26 May. The event had been moved 11 miles away into the city of Philadelphia because of a pro-Palestine encampment on campus.

This comes amidst a wave of US university encampments that have sometimes brought campus life to a halt as students demand their universities divest from Israel, which has k*lled more than 37,000 Palestinians since the 7 October escalation in the 76-year Israeli occupation of Palestine.
