A number of major UK consumer energy companies are evidenced as criminally harassing and fraudulently pursuing customers for payment of alleged debt that the energy companies know not to be owed.

The regulator, Ofgem, has so far failed to prosecute flagrant unlawful conduct and is evidenced in a response to a Freedom of Information request as concealing catastrophic billing failures (since at least 2017) in energy companies' billing systems that led to a significant volume of known overbilling.
