Ed Gein, a Wisconsin grave robber and murderer, gained notoriety for his macabre crimes and taxidermy of human remains. Isolated after his mother's death, he descended into grave robbing and crafting grisly trophies from his victims. Arrested for the murder of Bernice Worden in 1957, Gein was deemed unfit for trial and institutionalized until his death in 1984. His crimes inspired fictional works like Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs.
