Zx Spectrum 2A Black Fancy 8-bit Retro Computer Refurbished Tuned Retro
The ZX Spectrum 2A Black Fancy is a remarkable piece of computing history that continues to captivate retro gaming enthusiasts and collectors alike. Released in the late 1980s, this 8-bit home computer was a crucial evolution in the iconic ZX Spectrum series, representing a blend of sleek design, enhanced functionality, and affordability. Refurbished and finely tuned, the ZX Spectrum 2A Black Fancy offers a nostalgic journey into the golden age of 8-bit gaming, making it a prized possession for anyone passionate about vintage technology.

The Legacy of ZX Spectrum

The ZX Spectrum 2A was introduced as part of the continued evolution of the ZX Spectrum line, which began with the original ZX Spectrum in 1982. Sinclair Research, the company founded by Sir Clive Sinclair, initially developed the ZX Spectrum series. These machines were among the most popular home computers in the UK, sparking a revolution in home computing and gaming during the early 1980s.

However, the ZX Spectrum 2A was released under Amstrad's stewardship, which acquired Sinclair Research's computer business in 1986. Amstrad made several improvements to the ZX Spectrum series, including the development of the 2A model, which was designed to be more user-friendly and cost-effective while maintaining the core features that made the ZX Spectrum so beloved.

Design and Features

The ZX Spectrum 2A was notable for its all-black design, a departure from the grey casing of its predecessor, the ZX Spectrum 2. The black casing gave the 2A a more modern and stylish look, appealing to users who wanted their home computer to blend seamlessly with other contemporary electronics.

One of the key features of the ZX Spectrum 2A was its integrated cassette deck, a hallmark of the ZX Spectrum 2 series. This built-in tape recorder allowed users to load games and software directly, which was a significant convenience compared to using external tape recorders. The 2A model also maintained the full-size keyboard introduced in the ZX Spectrum 2, providing a more comfortable and responsive typing experience.

Internally, the ZX Spectrum 2A was almost identical to its predecessor, featuring 128KB of RAM, which was a considerable upgrade over the original 48KB model. This memory boost allowed for more complex and graphically rich games to be developed, contributing to the growing library of ZX Spectrum titles. The sound capabilities were powered by the AY-3-8912 sound chip, which delivered superior audio quality for games and applications, further enhancing the user experience.

The ZX Spectrum 2A also featured improved video output, offering both RGB and composite video options, which made it easier to connect the computer to various display devices. This was particularly useful for users who wanted to experience their games on larger screens or with better picture quality.

Many hours of soldering, trying & testing, modifying to improve to get the best possible outcome. Still thinking of trying AD 722 module instead of Tea 2000. I tried the 1uH +82 uF to get 4.43Mhz (variable cap and inductance) it removed the ghosting but I was not satisfied with the quality of fonts that became blurry.
