I have made a console. Partially I got a knock-off Sega and just replaced the ROM chip for a bigger size. The original was an EN29LV800 - 8 Megabit 1024K x 8-bit / 512K x 16-bit Flash Memory I desoldered the Chip, it was software made by RED KID with 4 really basic games. In Hexadecimal code, I changed the game ROMs for EN29LV640 64 Megabit (4M x 16-bit ) CMOS 3.0 Volt to make a prototype board, and flashed the memory with improved games. Sega Mega Drive These days you can still buy the knock-off version and cartridge with 196 games. But in 2014 it was fun and challenging to crunch the hexadecimal code and do a console with better games for kids. It took about 2 weeks, a lot of fun with that project. Sorry for the picture quality there was an onboard video decoder built-in that I was not able to replace for a high-quality video decoder :-)
The good thing was it played all EU, AUS, Japan and US cartridges. Enjoy! Sega Mega Drive
