The man who actually shaped the Palestinian movement - Amin Al Husseini.
Not too many people know the person who kick started the Palestinian movement. Haj Amin Al Husseini the British appointed Mufti of Jerusalem corroborated with the Nazis and participated in the Holocaust. Many today who chant "death to Israel" and his ardent followers perhaps are unaware of his secret past.
Amin al-Husseini (1897–1974), also known as Mohammad Amin al-Husseini, was a prominent Palestinian Arab nationalist and Muslim leader in the early to mid-20th century. Born around 1897, he is most noted for his role as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, a position he held from 1921 until his death in 1974. He was a controversial figure, primarily due to his fervent opposition to Zionism and his collaboration with Axis powers during World War II.
Al-Husseini's significant activities include:
1. **Anti-Zionist Efforts:** He opposed the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine and led various protests and uprisings against British rule and Jewish immigration.
2. **Collaboration with Nazi Germany:** During World War II, al-Husseini aligned himself with Nazi Germany, meeting with Adolf Hitler and other high-ranking officials. He sought their support for the Arab cause and was involved in propaganda efforts aimed at Arab and Muslim populations.
Numerous books have been written about Amin al-Husseini, exploring various aspects of his life, his political activities, and his controversial legacy. Some notable titles include:
