Venom is returning to theaters to provide more carnage and more MCU confusion.

Sony has debuted the trailer for "Venom: The Last Dance," the third and final film in its trilogy centered on the Spider-Man character. Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock, a journalist who hosts an alien symbiote.

The trailer begins with Eddie transforming into Venom to take on a group of villains, and it leans into the comedy of the original two films as Eddie and the symbiote awkwardly try to say, "We are Venom."

The rest of the footage depicts Eddie and Venom on the run as fugitives, and Sony's official plot synopsis teases, "Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance."

Tom Hardy in "Venom: Let There Be Carnage."
The trailer also reveals that more symbiotes will be coming to Earth, with Venom warning, "My home has found us." The possible death of Eddie and/or Venom is hinted at, as the film's tagline is "till death do they part," and Eddie says, "We may not make it out of this alive, buddy."

Is 'Venom: The Last Dance' an MCU film? New trailer sparks confusion
But one moment in the trailer left some Marvel fans confused: Cristo Fernández is briefly seen in a bar with a piece of alien symbiote on the counter, which a character played by Chiwetel Ejiofor captures.

This appears to be the follow-up to the credits scene from "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which, like all Marvel Cinematic Universe films, takes place in a different universe than Sony's "Venom" series. In the credits scene, Hardy's Eddie Brock chats with Fernández's character in a bar, and when Eddie is transported back to his universe — the world of the "Venom" franchise — a piece of the symbiote is left behind in the MCU.

The scene seemingly sets up a storyline for the next "Spider-Man" film involving Tom Holland's Peter Parker encountering the Venom symbiote in his world.

Fans were confused, then, by the "Last Dance" trailer suggesting that the bar is in the "Venom" universe, not the MCU, when "No Way Home" implied the opposite.

"Another Sony Marvel movie that doesn't make any sense because how is this possible," one X post said.

'Venom: The Last Dance' cast and release date
"Venom: The Last Dance" stars Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.

Ejiofor and Ifans are both entering the "Venom" franchise after previously playing different Marvel characters on screen, as the former starred as Mordo in "Doctor Strange," while the latter played the Lizard in Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man."

"Venom: The Last Dance" hits theaters on Oct. 25.
They are Venom, and they are officially back — Sony Pictures has dropped the first trailer for “Venom: The Last Dance,” the final movie in the Spider-Man villain trilogy.

Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock, better known as the brain-eating, symbiote villain Venom from the Spider-Man comics. Sony is touting “The Last Dance” as “the final film in the trilogy.” According to the logline, “Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”

In the trailer, Hardy faces a massive, symbiote alien from Venom’s home planet, on top of being hunted by government agents. There’s plenty of symbiote action, plus a scene where Hardy rides a super-fast, Venom-ized horse. Joining Hardy is “Ted Lasso” star Juno Temple and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Recently, fans saw Venom teased in the MCU’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” post-credits scene. In it, the villain felt the effects of Dr. Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) haywire multiverse spell, which transported different Spider-Man villains into the mainline MCU. At the end of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, the symbiotic baddie was teleported into the MCU and saw Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on a news broadcast, but in “No Way Home,” he’s zapped back to his universe — but not before leaving behind a gooey piece of his symbiote.

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, looking to be the final chapter of Tom Hardy's symbiote trilogy which began in 2018. Set to release in October, Venom: The Last Dance is Tom Hardy's third outing as the classic Marvel Comics anti-hero Venom. Eddie's Wearing The Same Clothes

At the beginning of Venom: The Last Dance's first trailer, Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock is wearing the same clothes he was wearing both in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and in Spider-Man: No Way Home when he and his symbiote were inadvertently transported to the MCU thanks to Doctor Strange's botched spell. However, Eddie and Brock were not involved in the events of No Way Home seeing as Eddie was instead drunk in Mexico. While they planned to go find Spider-Man, the duo was instead sent back thanks to the new spell cast by Strange as seen No Way Home's post-credits.

As a result, it looks as though the beginning of The Last Dance will feature Eddie and Venom still in Mexico before finding themselves in the sights of a new military outfit seemingly tasked with the study and containment of symbiotes. Likewise, it seems as though more symbioses will be making their way to Earth as well. To that end, it looks as though Eddie might be stuck with his Mexico threads and crocs for a significant portion of the movie.

Retconning Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits in Venom 3 would pose multiple issues and conflicts.
The first Venom: The Last Dance trailer generated discussion about a possible Spider-Man: No Way Home connection, but a new theory explains how the movie does not necessarily undo a past Marvel Cinematic Universe moment. Tom Hardy will return this October to put an end to the only successful franchise in Sony's Spider-Man Universe so far. Venom: The Last Dance's first trailer has finally been released, teasing what fans can expect from the character's final solo film, and the footage sparked serious debate about Sony walking back a major Spider-Man: No Way Home moment.

In the trailer, Chiwetel Ejiofor's character was seemingly collecting the piece of the Venom symbiote that stayed behind in the MCU. Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene featured Hardy's Eddie Brock at a bar in the MCU, with the character soon being teleported back to the SSU, with a piece of Venom staying behind. That tease was speculated to play a role in Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4, with Peter Parker coming into contact with the symbiote, but Ejiofor's Venom: The Last Dance character seemed to block that. However, a Venom: The Last Dance theory keeps Venom's Spider-Man 4 hopes alive.

Venom: The Last Dance Theory’s MCU Connection Explained
There Are Two Pieces Of The Symbiote
Venom left in the MCU in Spider-Man No Way Home
The situation is tricky as Ted Lasso's Dani Rojas actor Cristo Fernández returns in Venom: The Last Dance's trailer as seemingly the same bartender he played in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The character was talking to Hardy's Eddie Brock about MCU events in a bar in Mexico when Eddie was taken back to the SSU, and the piece of Venom stayed in the MCU. That said, a new Venom: The Last Dance trailer theory shared on Twitter by @Beyonder_10 explains how the SSU film's trailer might have been misleading.

According to the theory, there are two different versions of the bar and the bartender. Eddie Brock would have returned to the SSU, leaving a piece of Venom behind for Holland's Peter Parker to come into contact with in Spider-Man 4. Then, the character returned to the SSU in the same exact place he was in the MCU, so the bartender in the Venom: The Last Dance trailer is a variant of the MCU one, and Venom left another piece of the symbiote behind as he arrived. This SSU part of Venom is then collected by Ejiofor's character.

Why Venom 3 Undoing Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Ending Makes No Sense
There Are Too Many Issues
Chiwetel Ejiofor's Mordo looking worried about Doctor Strange
Venom: The Last Dance retconning Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene would be one of the worst moves Sony has done. Besides killing any potential for a future symbiote storyline in the MCU, the move would face a few issues. First is the fact that Ejiofor's character is the one to retrieve the piece of the symbiote seen in the Venom: The Last Dance trailer. The actor is already known to MCU fans, as Ejiofor has played the sorcerer Mordo for years in the franchise. His SSU character going to the MCU would make the third Venom's story too convoluted.

Besides, if Ejiofor's mystery character were to collect the Venom piece in the MCU, then Venom: The Last Dance would inevitably have to be a multiversal movie in some way. However, that is not at all what the trailer showed will be the case. The story seems to be much more focused on the origin of Hardy's Venom catching up to him than thrusting the characters into another universe. As the film has been confirmed to be the SSU's final Venom entry, then it is better that it is self-contained and leaves the multiverse for other projects.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Is Perfectly Set Up To Feature The Symbiote
The Hero Is At His Lowest Point

Spider-Man: No Way Home has set up the perfect way for Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 to feature the symbiote. Peter Parker will be ready for a classic Spider-Man story in his next solo film, with the character going through the hardest time yet in his life, as the Green Goblin killed Aunt May and Doctor Strange's spell made everyone he loved forget Peter. That setup makes it perfect for Peter to be influenced by the symbiote, donning the black suit and becoming more aggressive.

That could lead to the first time there is a multi-movie arc for the black suit, with Holland's Peter Parker wearing the symbiote from Spider-Man 4 until Avengers: Secret Wars. The final movie in the Multiverse Saga would make for a poetic ending to the MCU's symbiote story, as Spider-Man first donned the black suit in the comics' Secret Wars event. With the MCU perfectly set up for the symbiote saga, Venom: The Last Dance undoing Spider-Man: No Way Home's Venom scene would make no sense at all, which is why the SSU theory could be on to something.
