Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has initiated the vetting process for potential vice presidential candidates, sending out paperwork to a select group of contenders in recent weeks.

Among those contacted are North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, along with Florida Representative Byron Donalds, New York Representative Elise Stefanik, and former cabinet member Ben Carson, according to sources familiar with the effort.

Representatives for the candidates have not yet commented on the matter. The composition of Trump’s list is subject to change, with the final decision resting with him.

Trump’s spokesperson emphasized that only Trump himself knows the timing and choice of his running mate.

This development comes amid Trump’s legal troubles, including his recent conviction on multiple counts in a hush money trial, the Associated Press reported.
