This weird shaped cup is specially designed for drinking coffee in zero gravity.

NASA astronaut Donald Pettit invented it on the International Space Station.

This is the first patented product invented in orbit.

Internet called it the hoo-ha mug, a pun on its strange design.

Jokes apart….this is a very smart and useful product for astronauts.

There is low gravity on the ISS, so unlike earth, the coffee does not move towards lips when the cup is tilted.

Cup relies on capillary force. As shown here, the thinner the pipe, higher the liquid rises due to capillary force.

Patent reveals that the interior corner tapers continuously from base to lip interface.

This ensures that the liquid always has a capillary force drawing the it towards lip interface where the liquid enters users mouth.

This is how the cup cheats low gravity.
