This summer, northeastern US states like New Jersey and New York are bracing for the arrival of giant black and yellow Jorō spiders, an invasive species originally from China.

These spiders, roughly the size of a human hand, are known for their unique ability to fly up to 100 miles by using their webs as makeshift parasails.

Despite their venomous nature, experts assure that their venom is mild and their fangs are not strong enough to penetrate human or pet skin.

With a body length of about four inches and legs spanning six to eight inches, female Jorō spiders are vividly colored and infamous for cannibalizing their male mates.

First spotted in Georgia about a decade ago, these arachnids have since been observed spinning large golden webs in people’s yards, the Daily Mail has reported.
