Sulphur Springs might be just a small town in Texas but they made a big leap when in 2012 by introducing two bathrooms made fully out of glass on their downtown square. Nothing of the sort was before seen in the entire United States. This potty novelty was a rather expensive investment – the architectural and design masterpieces cost the City $54,000.
The city’s public facility has a steel frame and three out of four walls are made of glass. The fourth fall need be a permanent structure as it holds the restroom piping and the heat and air conditioning. The glass is a one-way mirror, that is to say, the person inside can view clearly what is on the outside, while those trying to peep in must be satisfied only with their reflection in a mirror. For this illusion to work, the outside of the bathroom is more lit than the inside. Therefore, there are no lights on the inside, and for those who want to use the restrooms at night there are LED lights placed outside the structure, so the illusion remains. The design has a spacious interior accessible even for wheelchairs, and a gleaming stainless steel toilet and sink.

It seems that the Sulphur Springs’ investment really paid off. The structure has awakened the interest not only of local folks but also tourists came by to witness the first bathroom made fully out of glass in the USA. This couple in the video shown above took a little stop and witnessed the amazing installation.
