Call of Duty: World at War is the first game in Treyarch's "Black Ops" timeline and is a first-person shooter game. It was released in North America on November 11, 2008, and in Europe on November 14, 2008. It was announced on December 2, 2007, and on June 6, 2008, the 64th anniversary of D-Day, Treyarch stated it would be titled "World at War" and will take place in both the Pacific and Eastern Front theaters of combat. It was made available for all seventh-generation consoles as well as personal PCs. It is the first Treyarch game to be released on PC, and it has a development cycle that is twice as long as Treyarch's last game, Call of Duty 3, and has been in production since late 2006. The first trailer for the game was released on June 21, 2008, and can be viewed here. Call of Duty: World at War features the same gameplay as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The game was re-released as part of a package in Call of Duty: The War Collection. On September 27, 2016, it was also made accessible on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility.
