Former Deputy National Security Advisor Victoria Coates says there’s “no evidence” Claudia Sheinbaum, the newly elected president of Mexico, would have the power to shut down the cartels’ fentanyl operations even if she wanted to. “This is killing tens of thousands of Americans. It’s a much worse death toll than COVID and that suddenly just doesn’t get mentioned,” she says. “And I haven’t heard anything from the president-elect of Mexico on it either.”
