Prayer for Growing in Holiness

Hello everyone, and welcome to America Needs Fatima’s 3-minute Meditation. In this short video segment, you and I will take about three minutes out of our day to meditate on a special piece of Catholic wisdom. In today’s meditation we ask for guidance on our ongoing journey toward virtue.

Before we say today's prayer, you and I should do our best to relinquish any pride that might hinder today's meditation from truly reaching our ears.

“O God, who didst crush the pride of the enemy by the long-suffering of Thine Only-begotten Son: grant, we beseech Thee, that we may worthily recall those things which in His tender love He bore for us; and thus, following His example may patiently endure all our adversities.

Teach me, my Lord, to be sweet and gentle in all the events of my life, in disappointments, in the thoughtlessness of others, in the insincerity of those I trusted, in the unfaithfulness of those on whom I relied. Let me forget myself so that I may enjoy the happiness of others. Teach me to profit by the suffering that comes across my path. Let me use it so that it may mellow me, not harden or embitter me; that it may make me patient, not irritable; that it may make me broad in my forgiveness, not narrow or proud or overbearing. May no one be less good for having come within my influence; no one less pure, less true, less kind or less noble for having been a fellow traveler with me on our journey towards eternal life. As I meet with one cross after another, let me whisper a word of love to You. May my life be lived in the supernatural, full of power for good, and strong in its purpose of sanctity. Amen.”

May today's meditation be a reminder to truly forget ourselves. When Our Lady appeared at Fatima, she encouraged this selflessness when she urged prayer and penance for the conversion of sinners. I hope today's meditation helped you to grow in your faith. Talk to you again soon.

America Needs Fatima is a campaign to capture the heart and soul of America with the Message of Our Lady of Fatima. In 1917, Our Lady asked for prayer, penance and other measures to avoid chastisement of suffering, famines, and wars. She also promised that:

“Finally, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”
