Humans have been taught and learned the wrong way. The proper covering is the key secret. You are growing your own compost, so don't throw anything away. Look at a forest floor. No one is watering or tending to it, yet the leaves, yearly dying plants, fallen trees, wildlife manure, all provides a covering, produces its own compost and develops its own topsoil.

Once you provide a decent cover for ground, you only need to plant, prune, dig a little. Virtually no weeding, no tilling, no watering, no rotating. Chemical insecticides developed a need for GMO seeds. Mulching protects from pests.
