"Untangle yourself from your parents... the sooner you stop relying on them, the more powerful you will be." What kind of cult is this? Vertical has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled A Sacrifice, a cult drama set in Berlin. This is the latest film directed by Ridley Scott's daughter Jordan Scott, following her feature debut Cracks from back in 2009. American social psychologist Ben Monroe investigates a local cult connected to a disturbing event, while his daughter becomes entangled with a mysterious boy. While he immerses himself in his work trying to understand what is going on with this mysterious cult, his rebellious teen daughter, Mazzy, ends up embroiled with this German boy and another strange woman. Starring Eric Bana, Sadie Sink, Jonas Dassler, Sylvia Hoeks, Sophie Rois, Stephan Kampwirth, & Lara Feith. It's "inspired by" a book that was originally set in Tokyo, however they shifted the location to Berlin instead, which is a bit strange because none of this film's sotry feels like anything that would be happening in Berlin.

Here's the official trailer (+ two posters) for Jordan Scott's film A Sacrifice, direct from YouTube:

The ever-prolific auteur Ridley Scott produces the film, along with Michael Pruss, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, and Georgina Pope.

Bana executive produces in addition to Jonathan Saubach, Justin Alvarado-Brown, Kenji Isomura, Céline Dornier, and Frédéric Fiore. Rebecca Feuer, Marius Ehlayil, Carlotta Löffelholz, Rusta Mizani, and Simon B. Stein co-produce.

“A Sacrifice” star Sink will next appear in “Stranger Things” Season 5, which will close out the beloved Netflix franchise. It’s gonna be hard to say goodbye, she told the “Today” show.

“These kids, this entire cast and crew, it’s family,” Sink said. “People say that all the time, but I genuinely mean it. And to think that we have to say goodbye to that security and knowing that we’re going to be seeing each other for another season?”

She added, “It’s scary and sad, but I think it’s exciting to kind of move on to the next chapter, I guess.”

Sink’s “Stranger Things” co-star Millie Bobby Brown said in 2023 that she is grateful the series is almost done.

“When you’re ready, you’re like, ‘All right, let’s do this. Let’s tackle this last senior year. Let’s get out of here,’” Brown told Glamour. “‘Stranger Things’ takes up a lot of time to film and it’s preventing me from creating stories that I’m passionate about. So I’m ready to say, ‘Thank you, and goodbye.’”

“A Sacrifice” premieres June 28 from Vertical Entertainment. Check out the trailer below.

Sadie Sink is solidifying her “Scream Queen” status in the new cult thriller A Sacrifice.

After memorable performances in Stranger Things and Fear Street, Sink, 22, is continuing her horror streak with the haunting new film. Sink plays Mazzy, a rebellious teenager who reunites with her father, Ben (Eric Bana), who is a social psychologist researching a local Berlin cult. However, in Us Weekly’s exclusive first look at the movie’s trailer, viewers quickly find out that Mazzy becomes embroiled with the cult herself.

“The minute someone mentions sacrifice or redemption I smell cult,” Bana, 55, says as Ben in the trailer as he investigates a crime scene suspected of being a group sacrifice.

The film — which is based on the Nicholas Hogg novel Tokyo Nobody — also stars Sylvia Hoeks, Jonas Dassler, Sophie Rois, Stephan Kampwirth and Lara Feith.

“Don’t talk to strangers,” Dassler’s character, the alluring local boy Marting, tells Mazzy in the trailer before introducing her to his “group.” The more Mazzy sees of Marting’s group, the darker the situation gets.

“Untangle yourself from your parents,” Rois’ character, Hilma, who appears to be one of the leaders of the cult, tells Mazzy. “The sooner you stop relying on them the more powerful you will be. Purify and start again.”

“They require you to just really throw yourself into it and be out in the elements and really be in the moment, you leave everything out there,” Sink told MTV of the genres in 2021. “I became a lot more comfortable, you know, screaming on camera and doing things that feel so unnatural and ridiculous sometimes.”

She added: “There’s this energy that’s so fun on the horror-movie set. And even though, sometimes, it’s actually pretty tense and scary when it needs to be, for the most part, weirdly it feels a little bit more lighthearted than when you’re doing something that’s more dramatic.”

A Sacrifice premieres in theaters on June 28.
