In a surprise appearance at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Asian nations to join the upcoming Swiss-led peace summit aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Speaking passionately, Zelenskyy stressed the urgency of the situation, highlighting the importance of regional support for the peace process.

Zelenskyy criticized attempts to disrupt the summit, accusing China of using its influence to deter attendance, and made veiled jabs at the United States for not confirming President Joe Biden's participation. The peace talks, scheduled for June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland, will focus on key aspects of Ukraine’s 10-point peace plan, including nuclear security, food security, and the return of abducted Ukrainian children from Russia.

During his 15-minute address, Zelenskyy called on Asian leaders to involve their nations in these global affairs and unite against the war. He highlighted the plight of Ukrainian children taken to Russia, emphasizing that "time is running out" to secure their return and protect their future.

Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who shared the stage with Zelenskyy, expressed support for Ukraine but did not confirm if Singaporean leaders would attend the summit. Ng praised Zelenskyy’s appearance as a symbol of the hope for a rules-based international order.

Zelenskyy’s visit to the Shangri-La Dialogue is part of his broader effort to garner international support for his peace plan and end the ongoing conflict, which has caused significant humanitarian and geopolitical challenges since it began in February 2022.
