Theme:
The chapter deals with the phenomenon of hypocrisy. It criticizes hypocrisy and condemns the hypocrites. It also exhorts the Believers to be sincere in their faith and make charity.

Meaning of Munafiq:
Munafiq is a person who in public and in community shows that he is a Muslim but rejects Islam or speaks against it either in his heart or among the enemies of Islam. The hypocrisy itself is called nifāq (نفاق).

Punishment for Munafiq in the Quran:
THE subject of 'munafiq' (hypocrite) or its plural 'munafiqoon' is one of the recurring themes in Ahadith and the Holy Quran. The Quran puts 'munafiqoon' and 'kuffar' (disbelievers) together, promising they shall both be thrown into hell.
