Sony, what are you doing? I understand you have a new regime and things are changing. Maybe this is something from the old regime, but your State of Play presentation yesterday was not good. It's okay to admit that, even if you're a diehard Sony fan. Many of the diehard fans didn't like the event, and for good reason. While there were some highlights, like AstroBot, one game stood out for all the wrong reasons: Concord.

Concord got the most presentation time, which made it seem like a big deal, but everyone hates it. The game started the presentation with a long cinematic trailer that looked like a knockoff version of Guardians of the Galaxy. At first, it seemed like it might be an action-adventure game, but after the six-minute cinematic, the gameplay was revealed to be a five-on-five hero shooter. This was the first time we learned what the game actually was, and it was a huge letdown.

Hero shooters had their heyday seven years ago with games like Overwatch and Fortnite. Now, the market is oversaturated, and many games in this genre have failed. Concord looks like it's pandering to a certain audience with its diverse character select screen and pronouns for characters. While diversity is important, it feels forced and doesn't make up for the game's lackluster gameplay and design.

The emphasis on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in Concord feels like pandering and has alienated a lot of players. Instead of focusing on creating an engaging and fun game, it seems like the developers were more concerned with checking off diversity boxes. This forced inclusion doesn't sit well with many gamers who feel that it's unnecessary and detracts from the gaming experience. Most players just want a good game, not a social statement.

The YouTube trailer for Concord's gameplay has 3,200 likes and 18,000 dislikes, a massive ratio. People aren't just hating on it because of the diverse cast or pronouns; they hate it because it looks like garbage. PlayStation 5 owners have been waiting for something exclusive, and this is a huge disappointment.

We don't even know if Concord will cost money. It seems like Sony put it out there to gauge reactions before deciding. If people had loved it, maybe they would charge for it. But with the overwhelmingly negative response, it's likely to end up on PlayStation Plus if it wants any chance of success.

There was another hero shooter at the presentation, Marvel Rivals, which looked much better. It had actual Marvel characters and seemed more appealing. Who is Concord for? It's trying to enter a diminishing market with an outdated model. The AAA video game industry is struggling because it takes so long to develop games, and by the time they come out, the market has moved on.

Concord is a perfect example of why the AAA video game industry is in trouble. It looks generic, isn't fun, and won't be a success. I've been wrong before, but I'm confident this game will flop just like many others before it. As a PlayStation 5 owner, I'm disappointed. Besides AstroBot, there's nothing exciting on the horizon.
