(BURBANK, Calif. – May 23, 2024) Today, “Good Morning America” and Disney+ released the official trailer and key art for “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” the next installment in the megahit “Descendants” franchise. The music-driven Disney Original movie starts streaming Friday, July 12, exclusively on Disney+, followed by a special encore Friday, Aug. 9, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel.

Former Villain Kid (aka VK) Uma, now Auradon Prep’s newest principal, extends an invite to the school to another VK — Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Wonderland. After the Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, Red and Cinderella’s daughter Chloe travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.

“Descendants: The Rise of Red” stars Brandy, Rita Ora, Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, China Anne McClain, Jeremy Swift, Dara Reneé, Ruby Rose Turner, Morgan Dudley, Paolo Montalban, Melanie Paxson, Leonardo Nam, Joshua Colley and Peder Lindell.

The music-driven franchise features seven new original songs, as well as reprises of the “Descendants 2” hit “What’s My Name” and “So This is Love” from the animated classic “Cinderella.” The score is by Torin Borrowdale, and Ashley Wallen choreographed the exciting musical numbers. The soundtrack for “Descendants: The Rise Of Red” will be released on July 12 and is now available for preorder and pre-add.

Written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer, the movie is directed by Jennifer Phang. Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh serve as executive producers alongside co-executive producers Mahita P. Simpson and Phang and producer Wendy S. Williams. Production design is by Mark Hofeling, editing is by Katie Ennis, costume design is by Julia Caston and Emilio Sosa, and Declan Quinn is the director of photography.

If you love musical fantasy films, the Descendants franchise has to be on your watchlist. Especially when there’s a new release from the series — Descendants: The Rise of Red. The upcoming release, directed by Jennifer Phang, stars Kylie Cantrall as Red, the daughter of Queen of Hearts and Malia Baker as Chloe Charming, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming.

The story revolves around Uma’s (played by China Anne McClain, the daughter of Ursula) invitation to Red to join Auradon Prep. Auradon Prep is a hotshot school attended by the heroes and anti heroes of the Descendants franchise, and Uma is the principal of the school. The story then moves forward with Queen of Hearts’ planning to seek revenge from the school and Cinderella while a bond gradually develops between Red and Chloe. Who wins — the queen of Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts, or Red and Chloe — you have to watch the film to know.

Melanie Paxton plays the role of Fairy Godmother, Rita Ora plays the Queen of Hearts, Brandy Norwood essays the role of Cinderella and Paolo Montalban plays Prince/King Charming in the movie.

May 23 (UPI) -- Disney+ is giving a glimpse of the new film Descendants: The Rise of Red.

The streaming service shared a poster and trailer for the musical fantasy movie Thursday featuring Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker and Rita Ora.

Descendants: The Rise of Red is a spinoff of Disney Channel's Descendants films and the fourth movie in the franchise, which follows the children of characters from classic Disney films.

Cantrall plays Red, the daughter of Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts (Ora), with Baker as Chloe Charming, the daughter of Cinderella's Cinderella (Brandy) and Prince Charming (Paolo Montalban).

LOS ANGELES -- Disney has released the latest trailer for "Descendants: The Rise of Red."

The film stars Brandy, Rita Ora, Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, China Anne McClain, Dara Reneé and more.

And as we wait patiently for the movie's premiere on Disney+, we're getting a taste of the music we can expect in the film.

Disney released the music video for "What's My Name (Red Version), performed by McClain, who plays Uma and Cantrall who plays Red.

On The Red Carpet recently caught up with Cantrall, who said she thinks fans are going to really enjoy the 4th installment of this beloved franchise.

"It's really exciting, especially as someone who grew up loving the original films. I think that we're gonna be giving the OG "Descendants" fans lots of what they already love: music, incredible dancing, incredible big production numbers. Like, I'm talking like 300 dancers and like, it's big," Cantrall said.

Cantrall also gave a hint on what we can expect from her character, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts and the franchise's newest Villain Kid.

"My character is like, she's active! She's a crazy girl, jumping off rooftops, and it's gonna be a little bit of everything. But I think that everyone's gonna be able to kind of relate to it and enjoy it," Cantrall revealed.

The soundtrack to "Descendants: The Rise of Red" will be available July 12, the same day the movie premieres on Disney+.

The streaming service shared a teaser and poster for the musical fantasy film Tuesday featuring Kylie Cantrall.

Descendants: The Rise of Red is the fourth film in the Descendants franchise, which follows the children of iconic Disney heroes and villains.

The new movie follows Red (Cantrall), the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Auradon's newest Villain Kid (VK), and Chloe (Malia Baker), the perfectionist daughter of Cinderella and King Charming.

"When the tyrannical Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, polar opposites Red and Chloe must join forces and travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red's mother down her villainous path," an official synopsis reads.
