It is not every day that you come across someone with a pet raccoon. But here we are. Part of the reason you do not see many pet raccoons in the world is that even “tame” raccoons or “domesticated” ones still retain some of their wilder tendencies even after a few generations. It is possible to have a pet raccoon but they require a lot of attention. So, not only is this pet raccoon surprising, but he is also trained and has an adorable trick.

Not every state lets people have raccoons as pets. In many states owning a raccoon is illegal. Some states like South Carolina do not have laws against owning raccoons. It is also difficult because many vets do not know how to or refuse to take raccoons on as patients. One other thing we learned is that raccoons are unpredictable for bathrooms. They can also be very destructive and require a lot of toys and climbing spaces to keep them occupied. They are also thieves and you’ll need to keep an eye on them to see where they might be hoarding their stolen goods. Just for your information these states forbid owning raccoons: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland and Massachusetts. Most other states require permits to own a raccoon.
