"Long Lonely Nights," written by Lee Andrews, Bernice Davis, Doug Henderson, and Mimi Uniman, was first released by Lee Andrews & the Hearts' single in 1957; their version was their first entry onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart but stalled at no. 45. Clyde McPhatter followed the same year and reached the no. 49 position on the Billboard chart; however, it was Bobby Vinton who broke the top 40 with his version in 1965, which rose to the no. 17 slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (Whitburn, 2013). The Hearts hailed from Philadelphia, PA and were formed in 1953. Lead singer Andrews' name was Arthur Lee Andrew Thompson and when deciding on a name for the group, he did not think Arthur Thompson and the Hearts sounded right, so he used his middle names, which sounded more professional (Warner, 2006).
