Nicolas Cage just might be the most terrifying serial killer onscreen…if he really is the murderer.

Cage stars in and produces “Longlegs,” the latest horror film from writer/director Oz Perkins who previously helmed “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” (2015), “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” (2016), and “Greta and Hansel” (2020).

Perkins, the son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, is officially credited as Osgood Perkins for “Longlegs.” The film is produced by Cage’s Saturn Pictures, Range, Traffic, Oddfellows, and C2 Motion Picture Group. Actress

The feature centers on a series of occult murders that are connected to an FBI detective’s (Maika Monroe) past. A cold case is reawakened; Cage, Blair Underwood, and Alicia Witt co-star in the film.

Cage previously teased his role in a conversation with horror icon John Carpenter for Document Journal. The Oscar winner hinted that his character might be the killer as he’s a person who is “hearing voices. It’s kind of like a possessed Geppetto, who’s making these dolls.”

“I’m working with Oz [Perkins], who you probably know. He’s pretty strong in the horror genre at the moment. But he’s actually Anthony [Perkins’] son,” Cage continued. “He’s done some really good movies. ‘Gretel and Hansel’ was terrific.”

Next, Monroe is set to reprise her “It Follows” role for an upcoming sequel to the 2014 film “They Follow” for Neon. The sequel was greenlit exactly 10 years after the first film, with writer/director David Robert Mitchell returning to again pull double duty. He’ll also produce alongside the original film’s producer David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith. Additionally producing are Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content.

“It Follows”…followed…a young woman (Monroe) who having a one-night stand discovers she is being pursued by an unknown supernatural force, one that was capable of taking the form of any anonymous individual that slowly stalks her.

Meanwhile, Perkins is additionally directing the Stephen King adaptation “Bad Monkey” starring Theo James, with Neon also distributing.

“Longlegs” premieres July 12. Check out the trailer below.
In an era of marketing where most studios just drop a full-length trailer on YouTube and in theaters, hoping viewers will be impressed enough to buy tickets even though they’ve often already unveiled the best parts, the distributors that go a different path have our attention. Such is the case for Oz Perkins’ forthcoming mystery horror feature Longlegs, for which NEON has dropped a handful of teasers and posters leading up to now a full trailer, which thankfully still keeps the mysterious.

Ahead of a July 12 release, they’ve now unveiled a 2.5-minute teaser, showing Maika Monroe on the hunt for Nicolas Cage. As Cage himself said, “I play, I almost call him like a possessed Geppetto… he makes these dolls, and the dolls infiltrate families and get the families to do terrible things. It’s a horror film. And [Perkins] was, I think telling a story, in some ways, about his mother, and I played Longlegs as a very androgynous character, and I’m channeling my mom.”

See the trailer below.
If there's one thing that actor Maika Monroe is going to do, it's put on a brilliant performance in a critically-acclaimed horror movie that's destined to be underseen and underappreciated by most of the general moviegoing public at large. The scream queen's first real breakthrough role came in 2014's "The Guest" and she wasted no time following that up with "It Follows" (which is receiving a sequel with the original cast reprising their roles), 2022's criminally underrated "Watcher," and the Paramount+ original "Significant Other."

This time, however, the star is backed up by none other than Nicolas Cage and actor-turned-director Oz Perkins on "Longlegs" in the hopes that audiences will be right on time to appreciate whatever scares and compelling imagery await. This latest horror feature comes with a fair amount of hype behind it, with previous trailers setting the stage for an occult thriller with one heck of an unsettling sense of atmosphere. Monroe stars as an FBI agent named Lee Harker who stumbles upon a case involving a string of murders — one that's much more than meets the eye. While her character gets the bulk of the screen time throughout this newest trailer released by NEON today, the true scene stealer would have to go with the disembodied voice of a thoroughly sinister-sounding Cage, who appears to be playing the killer at the heart of this freaky mystery.

Bruce in "Jaws." The T-rex in "Jurassic Park." Godzilla in, well, "Godzilla." Horror marketing has a long and storied history of hiding its main monster from audiences as much as possible, a creative choice that's certainly paid dividends throughout the genre. Now, Nicolas Cage in "Longlegs" might just be ready to enter the pantheon ... presuming he and the movie live up to what's been some seriously great promotional work up to this point. NEON has helped produce and distribute plenty of worthy titles throughout the years and "Longlegs" looks to be another win. Starring Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Blair Underwood, and Alicia Witt, the film comes from writer/director Oz Perkins (yes, the son of actor Anthony Perkins). For anyone who might somehow still be on the fence about this, just check out the synopsis below:

FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Nic Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.

Add on the Book of Revelations imagery, the possibly supernatural events surrounding the case, and the ominous echoes of "Silence of the Lambs" ("Is it scary being a lady FBI agent?," a kid asks Monroe's character early on in the trailer) and we're pretty confident in this film becoming this year's can't-miss horror event. We'll soon find out what "Longlegs" actually means when the film drops into theaters on July 12, 2024.
“Every year, there is another.” Dropped on Twitter last past weekend, a cryptic teaser that fans had to decipher and translate, Neon showed us all—even those who didn’t understand what they were seeing—the first look at “Longlegs.” An FBI horror thriller that sounds a little like “Silence Of The Lambs” in its mix of crime agencies and horror films, the movie is written and directed by Oz Perkins, the filmmaker behind “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” and episodes of “The Twilight Zone” (Perkins is also an actor and the son of classic Hollywood actor Anthony Perkins).

The chilling teaser only showed a family in a photo smiling together with eerie music, a man whispering in the background, “That’s my daughter,” static sounds, the sounds of a 911 dispatcher saying, “Sir, can you stay on the line please?” followed by a freaky looking image of a body with extremely long legs and the terrified voice saying, “That’s not my daughter!” Then, a quick flash of unintelligible words that keen-eyed fans decoded as saying, “longlegs.” And that was our first terrifying, mystifying look at “Longlegs.”

“Longlegs” stars Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, Alicia Witt, and Blair Underwood. And now the trailer has arrived, and it reveals a bit more.

The film centers on Lee Harker (Monroe, known for “It Follows”), a talented new FBI agent who has been assigned to an unsolved case of a serial killer. As the investigation becomes more complicated and occult evidence is uncovered, Harker realizes a personal link to the ruthless killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.

Cage, a producer on the film, is set to play the elusive serial killer. Not much else is known about the film, but Neon is now ready to release the movie on July 12, 2024. Get more clues for what we’re in for with the new teaser trailer below.
Horror fans are in for a chilling treat with the upcoming release of Osgood Perkins' Longlegs this summer.
The intense teasers and posters for the film hint at a disturbing story involving Nicolas Cage as a deranged killer.
Longlegs is prioritizing immersive storytelling in its marketing campaign, creating a terrifying and thought-provoking experience for viewers.
Horror fans have been eating well in 2024 so far with a great blend of sub-genre offerings. However, this summer, things are about to take an extremely dark turn with the release of Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs. The serial killer nightmare from Neon has already had an iconic marketing campaign with a handful of disturbing posters and teasers. Now, the film’s latest cryptic teaser comes with a second puzzling message for Maika Monroe to solve as she tries to hunt down Nicolas Cage’s deranged killer.

The short teaser titled “Dirty: Part Two,” is an intense collage of shots and thick atmospheric sequences. Layered over the footage is the message, “Listen loud the serpents, see the darkness slithering, tell me what good is that body, if not for hiding shiny red parts.” The story revolves around new FBI recruit Agent Lee Harker (Monroe), who’s been assigned the unsolved case of a deadly serial killer (Cage) still on the lam. However, if you’re a fresh FBI agent chasing a serial killer in a horror movie, it’s not bound to go well — just ask Jodie Foster.

Monroe plays a detective hunting down Nicolas Cage's demented serial killer in the ominous new horror film.

As Harker tries to save another family from this killer’s wrath, known as “the man downstairs” in this trailer, she learns she has a shocking connection to his horrific game. While this is another very vague trailer, it does give us a bit more to chew on with Cage’s character seemingly holding a little girl hostage. Horror fans also get another tease of Cage’s eerie voice with the line that closes out the footage: “ There she is.” The villain is seen from the back at a table with someone in the companion poster for the new teaser. Whether that’s Monroe questioning Cage or the missing girl in question is still a mystery.

Horror Movie Marketing Is a Killer Game
There have been a ton of great horror marketing campaigns in recent memory. In the last year alone, M3GAN, Scream VI, and Evil Dead Rise come to mind. However, Longlegs has taken the genre's marketing game to the next level just by letting Perkins’ emotionally destructive imagery, along with the soul-crushing sound design, do the talking. It has made the horror community feel a part of the investigation as we know just as much about this killer — if not less — as Monroe’s character. That’s a scary thought, to say the least.

While Longlegs will most likely receive a more traditional trailer before its theatrical release, these dreadful yet thought-provoking puzzle pieces are what the lead-up to Longlegs will be remembered for. Most horror films would bank on the fact that their film stars horror icons like Monroe (It Follows, Watcher) and Cage (Renfield, Mandy), but that doesn’t seem to be Longlegs' concern. Their priority lies in immersing us in the characters and the traumatic world that surrounds them.

Longlegs is releasing in theaters on July 12, 2024. Until then, you can view the new teaser above and the poster below if you dare. The way this latest warning message ends makes it feel like we’ll be getting a third clue with another riddle to solve soon, so stay tuned at Collider for more!

Leave it to Oz Perkins, the son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, to stir up another cinematic nightmare. The first teaser has been released for Perkins’ so-far-so-mysterious “Longlegs,” out from Neon on July 12, with the director here officially credited as “Osgood Perkins,” also the name of the filmmaker’s grandfather.

The horror movie, which centers on an occult killing spree and one detective’s personal connection to it, stars “It Follows” scream queen Maika Monroe as an FBI agent assigned to a cold case now reawakened. But she soon uncovers a close-to-home link to the crimes, perhaps being orchestrated by Nicolas Cage as the murderer. Blair Underwood and Alicia Witt also star.

Perkins directed his own original screenplay for the Neon release — produced by Cage’s Saturn Pictures, Range, Traffic, Oddfellows, and C2 Motion Picture Group — that shot in Vancouver in early 2023. The marketing so far has been pretty mysterious for this “Silence of the Lambs”-esque thriller that’s said to be a throwback to the great horrors of the 1970s. A set of posters released earlier this week that didn’t tell us much, while an R rating for “bloody violence and disturbing images” certainly promises a grisly affair to come. Andrés Arochi is the cinematographer.

Oz Perkins’ pure-horror output so far has included the films “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” (2015), “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” (2016), and “Greta and Hansel” (2020). He also appeared on the Shudder documentary miniseries “Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror,” where he discussed his father Anthony’s role in “Psycho” and identity as a closeted gay man playing the mother-obsessed murderer in Alfred Hitchcock’s defining classic.

“Longlegs” star Monroe will reprise her “It Follows” role for the upcoming sequel to the 2014 instant-horror classic, “They Follow,” also set up at Neon. David Robert Mitchell wrote and directed “It Follows” and will reprise the same duties for the follow-up. In that film, Monroe played a high schooler terrorized by a sexually transmitted ghostly entity. She also solidified her scream queen bona fides with the 2022 stalking thriller “Watcher,” released by IFC Midnight.

“You’ve got the teeth of the hydra upon you,” reads the trailer description for “Longlegs.” Watch it below.
The official trailer for NEON’s upcoming film Longlegs is out. In the trailer, we get a clearer picture of what’s going on in the film, with most of the focus on Maika Monroe’s character, Lee Harker. Lee is asked “is it scary being a lady FBI agent,” and she answers, “Yeah.” We also hear Nicolas Cage’s creepy voice.

In the film, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”

The upcoming serial killer horror movie is directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel). Nicolas Cage stars alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.

Alicia Witt (“The Walking Dead”) and Blair Underwood (“American Crime Story”) also star.

Producers are Nicolas Cage along with his production company Saturn Films (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Pig), Dan Kagan (Significant Other), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious), Dave Caplan (The End We Start From) and Chris Ferguson (Child’s Play).

In theaters on July 12, 2024.
Nicolas Cage never went away, but he’s had a recent career resurgence. “Pig” and “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” were both critical successes for the star. Last year’s more commercial “Renfield” put Cage’s talent front and center as he took on the iconic, villainous role of Dracula. And the surreal, nuanced turn in “Dream Scenario” even put him back in the Oscar conversation last year, even if he ultimately missed a nomination.

“Longlegs” looks to be another potential hit for the star in the horror thriller genre. The producers have made it clear that the actor plays the serial killer in this upcoming feature, which looks to be a twisted blend of “True Detective” and “Silence of the Lambs.” It’s unconventional to reveal the murderer’s identity before the movie’s release. Especially one played by an actor as big as Cage. But this only adds to the intrigue of the film.

Maika Monroe, of “It Follows” fame, stars as FBI agent Lee Harker. Nicolas Cage plays the serial killer. The movie also stars Alicia Witt and Blair Underwood.

The synopsis:

Set in 1974, the film focuses on Lee Harker, a new FBI agent, who has been assigned to an unsolved case of a serial killer. As the investigation becomes more complicated with occult evidence uncovered, Harker realizes a personal link to the killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.

A number of exciting horror projects are in the works for 2024. Now, as you can see in the trailer below, one of the first upcoming titles that fans can look forward to is the upcoming NEON production Longlegs.

The new film stars fan-favorite actor Nicolas Cage as a serial killer in the film, while Maika Monroe will be playing an FBI agent. Additionally, Osgood Perkins serves as director on the production, which should excite fans of his previous works which include The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Gretel & Hansel.

The film, which is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers,” does appear to be a clever throwback to a style of film we don’t see very often anymore. The official synopsis for the “R-rated” offering is as follows:

“FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”
