North Korea has dropped at least 260 balloonscarrying "filthy waste and trash" in South Korea, according to officials.

South Korea's military warned its residents to stayindoors and cautioned the public against touching thewhite balloons and the plastic bags attached to them.

The recent incident comes days after North Korea saidit would retaliate against the "frequent scattering ofleaflets and other rubbish" in border areas by activists in the South.

Southern activists are believed to have launchedballoons carrying among other things, cash, bannedmedia content, and even Choco Pies - a South Korean snack banned in the North.
