This is an interview between BBC World reporter Stephen Sackur and the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali.

The main topic of focus is Guyana's new found wealth in offshore oil reserves. The reporter attempts to shame the president for wanting to extract this natural resource in order to build Guyana into a modern democracy which has seen it's share of poverty and dictatorship.

The reporter attempts to outsmart and lead the conversation are in vein, as the President Ali appears to have answers to all of his questions including those about colonialism, global warming and even the disputed region of Essequibo with neighboring Venezuela.

Comment if you believe that President Ali is being true to his people by putting a pause on climate concerns in order to help Guyana flourish.
