US allies are resisting new calls for further bans and curbs on semiconductor exports and equipment gear to China.

ASML reported first quarter sales which showed that China is their most important market, larger than Korea, Taiwan, the US, and Europe combined. Companies in Japan and Germany are also reporting strong growth in China. As a result, host governments for these companies are reacting coldly to US efforts to intensify trading restrictions in semiconductors.
