"Palisades Park," written by Chuck Barris, was Freddy Cannon's best selling single, which landed at the no. 3 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1962 (Whitburn, 2013). Born Frederick Picariello, Cannon recorded eight top forty hits including "Tallahassee Lassie" and "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans" (Whitburn, 2013). Barris wrote the song while in New York looking over the Hudson River to New Jersey's Palisades Park Amusement Park (D. McCallister, npr, Mar. 22, 2017). The park officially opened in 1898 and closed in 1971; "Palisades Park Amusement Park became one of the most visited amusement parks in the United States" (Kristen, onlyinyourstate, Dec. 30, 2022). Barris was later responsible for creating "The Dating Game," "The Newlywed Game" and eventually "The Gong Show" (D. McCallister, npr, Mar. 22, 2017).
