GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: Lt. Col. James G. Zumwalt, USMC (Ret.), is a retired Marine infantry officer who served in the Vietnam War, the 1989 intervention into Panama and Desert Storm. The elder son of the late Adm. Elmo Russell "Bud" Zumwalt Jr., Col. Zumwalt spoke to the January luncheon regarding his latest book “A Veterans Journey Back to Vietnam Leads to Unexpected Treasure.” His talks, sharing lessons learned from the Vietnam War, were particularly enlightening. He has interviewed nearly 200 former North Vietnamese veterans (including Gen. Nguyen Giap) to gain fascinating insights as to how a fighting force, weak in technology but strong in commitment and ingenuity, was able to wage an effective war against a vastly superior enemy. During the question and answer session, he provided unique insights on Iraq and Afghanistan, the global war on terrorism and the complexities of Islamic extremism. He also spoke of the future with potential adversaries such as Iran and North Korea and possible confrontations with Russia and/or China.

GUEST 2 OVERVIEW: Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Jeff Sacks is a 20-year U.S. Army veteran.
