A temporary pier built by the US to deliver humanitarian aid into Gaza has been damaged by “rough seas” and has suspended operations, US officials told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Those officials said the pier will be repaired, so aid can be delivered once again, but a timeline has not been determined.

The $320-million pier only began operations within the past two weeks and so far, three US service members have been injured and four of its vessels have been beached due to the heavy seas.

At one point last week, deliveries were halted for two days after crowds rushed the aid trucks coming from the pier. One person was shot dead, as a result.
