Stellar Blade JUST PISSED off WOKE Gamers!
Stellar Blade PS5 Quietly Adds Uncensored Costumes Amid Controversy: Fans Speak Out
Stellar Blade has been at the center of controversy since its launch, with a day one patch altering several of Eve's outfits in the game. Many fans believed that Korean developer Shift Up had been pressured by Sony to censor the character, despite other revealing outfits remaining in the game. The studio insisted that the changes were intentional, though it acknowledged the difficulty in convincing fans.
In a surprising turn, Shift Up has quietly added two new extremely revealing outfits as part of its Boss Challenge patch, which were not communicated prior to the update. These new outfits seem to be a response to the backlash and a nod to the ongoing #freestellarblade movement, which advocates against censorship in the game.
Upon installing the update, players automatically unlock the Black Kunoichi and White Kunoichi outfits. Additionally, the Neurolink Suit can be obtained by defeating all opponents in the new mode. However, the update also includes the Midsummer Alice and Midsummer Redhood outfits, which can be purchased from Roxanne in Xion, a fact that was not mentioned in the patch notes.
The #freestellarblade movement has been gaining traction, with fans pushing back against perceived censorship and advocating for artistic freedom. This latest update appears to be an attempt by Shift Up to address these concerns while maintaining a balance between creative vision and fan expectations.
Fans have mixed reactions to these changes. Some view the new outfits as a positive step towards addressing their concerns, while others remain skeptical about the studio's intentions. The addition of these costumes without prior communication has fueled further discussion about transparency and the influence of major publishers on game content.
In a recent statement, Sony announced that an in-game graffiti referencing a racial slur in Stellar Blade will be patched out in the game’s day-one update. The controversial graffiti, which reads ‘Hard’ and appears next to an in-game shop known as the ‘R Shop’, has sparked debate and criticism.
Sony clarified that the placement of the two graphics was unintentional and that developer Shift Up had no intention of creating offensive artwork. They assured players that the graffiti would be replaced in the day-one patch.
Despite the game receiving positive reviews, some critics, including IGN, have taken issue with the graffiti, calling it racist. This has led to discussions about fake outrage in gaming journalism and the need to find controversy where there may not be any.
What are your thoughts on this situation? Do you think the graffiti was intentionally racist, or is it being blown out of proportion? Let us know in the comments below!
