KILLER BODY COUNT on Tubi is a slasher and yet again, Tubi delivers quite the genre gem. Behind the generic title is a gorgeously dark horror-comedy with a survival plot. Read our Killer Body Count movie review here!
KILLER BODY COUNT is a new Tubi movie and this one is a bonafide slasher. We’re talking old-school practical effects, and young people being targeted simply for their very natural hormone-induced physical desires.

If you haven’t jumped on board the Tubi train yet, it’s high time that you do. From Slay to Invasive and now with Killer Body Count, there are some true genre gems on this free streaming platform. Also, there is diversity done right. Which means it’s there naturally and not just for show.

Get off, get killed!
The teenage girl, Cami, is sent to an isolated rehab center by her very devout father. She recently lost her mom and while her father has found solace in the Church, it has become a prison for her. Her addiction has nothing to do with substance abuse, but rather her interest in umm physical pleasure.

Or, the pursuit of it, I should say. She hasn’t been too lucky with getting “there” yet, which is a theme in Killer Body Count.

At the rehab center – for teens who are just being teenagers – a killer begins to hunt those who have been admitted to the center by their family members. Basically, nothing is stopping these teens from getting “involved” with one another.

However, whenever someone gets off, they tend to get killed immediately after. By someone in a black robe, wearing a devil mask. Oh yes, the symbolism is heavy with this one, which is simply perfect. Also, this slasher does not hate on religion.

In fact, it only speaks against people using religion against others.

Religion in the sense of loving thy neighbor and attempting to help and understand your fellow man, is clearly shown as a positive thing.

Killer Body Count (2024) – Review | Tubi Slasher
“Jehoga” and creative use of scripture
In this latest Tubi gem – and, trust me, this is one hell of a gem (pun intended) – there is some very creative use of scripture. Like adding words to suit one’s purpose. Or use passages for some very twisted actions. You’ll see what I mean by the latter in the third act.

Let’s just say that “family relations” have an added meaning in Killer Body Count.

Also, there’s “Jehoga” which is (of course!) a Christian take on yoga. Clearly, yoga is too suggestive and just wrong, but with a few Christian changes and a touch of Jesus, it becomes Jehoga and is fine with God.

It does seem that the “changes” are mostly in what the poses are called, but apparently, that’s enough.

The cast of this Tubi survival slasher
If you’ve been checking out some of the recent (and really good) Tubi horror movies, then you’ll recognize a few of the actors.

We have Khosi Ngema as Ali, who throws one mean punch at one point, and Alex McGregor as Tawny, who is one of the “counselors”. Both were in Invasive (2024) and they are at least as good in Killer Body Count as they were in that one. However, this is more camp, which I love, and they’re great with that!

The lead character in Killer Body Count is Cami George portrayed by Cassiel Eatock-Winnik (The Dark Tower). I hope to see Cassiel Eatock-Winnik in a lot more genre movies. She is one fierce actor, who works perfectly in the lead here.

Also, there’s Savana Tardieu (Black Mirror) as Wyatt, N’kone Mametja as Mia, Jessie Diepeveen as Bree, and Bjorn Steinbach (Resident Evil series) as Eugene, the other counselor at the “rehab center”. Every single one of them is amazing!

Watch Killer Body Count on Tubi now!
The director of Killer Body Count is Danishka Esterhazy. She previously directed a 2021 remake of the 1982 classic horror Slumber Party Massacre and also directed the original sci-fi thriller Level 16 (2018). Also, she directed a few episodes of the Canadian genre hybrid Astrid and Lilly Save the World.

Jessica Landry wrote the screenplay for Killer Body Count. Previously, she has written A Podcast to Die For (2023), Who Kidnapped My Mom? (2022), and she co-wrote the 2022 Tubi Original Obsessed to Death starring Holland Roden. I can’t speak to her previous movies, but I loved this one!

If you, like me, love your slasher with a side of horror-comedy and dark social satire and commentary, then Killer Body Count should be perfect for you. Also, if you enjoy your slashers using practical effects and have characters who reference horror logic, you should have fun with this one. Check it out!

Killer Body Count is on Tubi from May 17, 2024.

Horror fans tend to treat their favorite movies — no matter how schlocky or cheaply-made — as sacred cows, which puts an immeasurable amount of pressure on anyone who dares to remake, reboot, or legacyquel a beloved title. And yet, director Danishka Esterhazy handled that pressure with ease for her fantastic meta-remake of "Slumber Party Massacre," and quickly solidified herself as one of the most exciting new voices in horror.

Esterhazy had already earned a great deal of goodwill with her twisted take on "The Banana Splits Movie," and well-versed aficionados likely first learned of her work with the gripping sci-fi dystopian flick "Level 16," about a prison-like boarding school for girls harboring a demented secret. And luckily for fans of all things scary and slasher, Esterhazy has a new film coming to the Tubi streaming service on May 17, 2024, called "Killer Body Count." That's right, in less than three days from the time this article goes live, you'll be able to enjoy a new slasher film from one of the most exciting directors working in the genre for free.

Tubi has been proving to be a formidable force in the streaming wars and has been cranking out new horror flicks at a rapid pace. They produced the 2022 remake of "Terror Train," a horror-comedy film called "Slay" about drag queens fighting vampires, and the survival horror flick "Lowlifes." Esterhazy is a great addition to their line-up and based on the trailer for "Killer Body Count," has made an exciting, fresh, and fun slasher movie that might be the perfect choice for your next at-home watch party with friends.

Sex and death in Killer Body Count
Tubi
"Killer Body Count" centers on a young woman named Cami who is mistaken for a sex addict by her religiously devout father, who sends her off to an isolated rehabilitation center in the wilderness for at-risk youth. But shortly after arrival, a killer in a devil mask starts hunting Cami and the other patients at the center, they're thrust into a fight for their lives. If this sounds like the Blumhouse flick "They/Them" but set at a different type of camp for troubled teens, take solace in knowing that based on the trailer, not all of the teens here are straight so there's certainly some great queer horror themes to explore as well. Cassiel Eatock-Winnik stars as Cami George, and is joined by Savana Tardieu as Wyatt, Khosi Ngema as Ali, N'kone Mametja as Mia, Alex McGregor as Tawny, Bjorn Steinbach as Eugene, and Jessie Diepeveen as Bree.

While Esterhazy served as director, the screenplay comes from Jessica Landry, who has also penned made-for-TV thrillers like "A Podcast to Die For," "Deadly Mom Retreat," and "Cheerleader Abduction." Perhaps what is most exciting is how unapologetically this film is courting Gen Z audiences, with jokes about only knowing how a rotary phone works because they saw it on "Stranger Things," and even the wordplay of the title. For those unaware, "body count" is slang for how many sexual partners a person has had, so the double entendre is a thing of beauty.

"Killer Body Count" arrives on Tubi on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Get ready for a fright-filled slasher that blends religious tension with teenage terror! Tubi‘s newest original movie, My Killer Body Count, premieres this week on the free streaming service.

In the movie, Cami, a misunderstood teenager, finds herself labeled a sex addict by her overly religious, out-of-touch father. Sent to a remote religious rehab facility, she longs for freedom. Her hopes for a peaceful reformation are shattered when a killer starts stalking the halls, preying on the vulnerable teens.

As the body count rises, Cami is forced to confront a horrifying truth: her fight for survival is inextricably linked to her struggle for independence. Can Cami and her new friends overcome the challenges and emerge stronger, or will they become just another victim?

Alex McGregor stars in the lead role of Cami. The cast includes Tawny Cassiel, Eatock-Winnik Khosi Ngema, Bjorn Steinbach, and Jessie Diepeveen. N’kone Mametja and Jason K. Ralph round out the cast in this brutal Tubi original.

My Killer Body Count uniquely blends a coming-of-age drama and chilling horror. So, mark your calendars for May 18th and prepare to be entertained (and maybe a little scared) by Tubi’s newest original movie! While you wait, be sure to check out Tubi’s latest killer horror film, Lowlifes, which is getting rave reviews.
Ignore the unnecessary logo design and Tubi has quickly grown into one of the better streaming sources. Movie buffs will find a mix of mainstream and cult movies. If you’re Gen X or older, the inconvenience of several short ads throughout any movie is also small stuff. Similar to every other streaming platform, Tubi has churning out original movies that are quickly turning it into the Hallmark of cheap thriller and horror movies. Most of their original content has been terrible and disposable. But recent slasher Slay proved to be a lot of campy fun. And now Tubi has debuted another original slasher, Killer Body Count, set in a camp for sex addicted teens.

Synopsis
Since her mother’s death, Cami has turned to boys while her father has tried to find comfort in church. After a series of misunderstandings leads him to believe his daughter is a sex addict, Cami find herself at a Catholic camp rehabilitation center in the woods. Surrounded by other horny teens and two strict siblings running the camp, Cami quickly finds herself at odds with the rules. But when a masked killer turns up targeting the residents who continue to engage in sex, Cami and the survivors must find a way off the premises.

Killer Body Count Doesn’t Re-Invent the Wheel, But Still Delivers
Don’t expect anything new from Killer Body Count. That’s not necessarily intended as a criticism of this original Tubi slasher. With several waves of slashers releasing since the ‘Golden Age’ of the 1980s, it’s hard to find new spins on the subgenre. And the last year or so has already seen the subgenre expand with The Blackening, They/Them, and Sick. As such, director Danishka Esterhazy (The Banana Splits Movie, Slumber Party Massacre) and writer Jessica Landry opt to mix old and new in what’s a fairly predictable horror entry. On one hand, there’s bit of classic camping slasher movie here along with the sex antics of 70s and 80s teen camping movies like Meatballs. Landry also throws in some meta slasher reference, though they’re few and far between. And then there’s the sexual politics that tread similar ground to the recent LGBQT slasher They/Them.

In addition to a few decent jump scares, Killer Body Count effectively mixes CGI with practical effects to deliver on a couple of brutal death scenes.

Perhaps it’s familiar, if not a bit derivative, but Killer Body Count mostly scores where it counts. Esterhazy has scored minor success with two past slashers and she once again shows that she is more than adept at the subgenre. In addition to a few decent jump scares, Killer Body Count effectively mixes CGI with practical effects to deliver on a couple of brutal death scenes. What Esterhazy delivers is good – intestines pour out of one victim’s body while blood generously splatters when the killer bashes another victim with a dumbbell. Other kills lack the creativity one expects from a good slasher. Moreover, the devil-masked killer has little in the way of screen presence and some misdirection never really results in a surprise with the killer reveal.

Killer Body Count Has a Few Good Ideas, Better-than-Expected Performances
To some extent, Killer Body Count gets extra mileage from its sexual politics even if it treads some familiar ground. Landry introduces interesting ideas that far outstretch traditional slashers. The focus on women’s sexuality, sexual pleasure, and sexual empowerment builds on other past feminist horror movies. If there’s a problem, it’s that Killer Body Count loses a bit of focus on its own subtext by the third act. Nevertheless, Esterhazy reminds us occasionally of the commentary by flipping the traditional gaze of slashers. As compared to 80s teen sex comedies and slashers, Esterhazy lets her female characters gaze on the men who are more frequently exposed.

Landry introduces interesting ideas that far outstretch traditional slashers.

None of the cast will likely be familiar to most viewers. This is a pretty green group of young actors and, as a result, some performances are a bit broad. But no one here is wooden – maybe there’s some scene chewing. What works quite well here is that Cassiel Eatock-Winnik’s ‘Camie’ and Savana Tardieu’s ‘Wyatt’ have chemistry and they’re both likeable, sympathetic characters. In addition, Landry’s screenplay has something of a character arc or Eatock-Winnik. If there’s a limitation to Killer Body Count it’s the unnecessary runtime that inches close to the two-hour mark. Plenty could have been cut from this slasher resulting in a tighter horror movie.

Killer Body Count Finds tubi Actually Deliver Good Original Content
Don’t look now but Killer Body Count is the second good original movie Tubi has delivered in 2024. There’s not much new here as Esterhazy doesn’t play too much with the format. A bit of old-fashioned 80s camping slasher mixed with some meta neo-slasher and sexual politics that’s not far removed from They/Them. Nonetheless, Esterhazy captures the bloody fun of the subgenre with sympathetic characters and a surprisingly heartfelt story. Neither groundbreaking nor a cult classic-in-the-making, Killer Body Count is still a fun slasher entry worth checking out.
