Anna Karenina is a 1977 BBC television adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name. It stars Nicola Pagett as Anna, Eric Porter as Karenin, and Stuart Wilson as Vronsky. Also appearing were Sheila Gish, Anna Wing, Frank Middlemass, and Hilary Minster.

This classic BBC adaptation of Leo Tolstoys epic tale of Passion is set in late nineteenth century Russia. It consisted of ten 50-minute episodes, and so was able to include more of the original plot than some adaptations.

Anna is young, vivacious, beautiful and resigned to a loveless marriage of convenience to a man twenty years her senior. She moves in the highest circles of Czarist Russia and believes herself to be invulnerable to temptation. But her life changes dramatically when she meets Count Vronksy who awakens her dormant passion and changes her life with ultimately tragic consequences.

Episode 1: After her brother is discovered being unfaithful, Anna Karenina persuades her sister-in-law, Dolly, not to leave him. Dolly's sister, Kitty, refuses a marriage proposal, as she is waiting for one from army officer Vronsky.
