10.Atchafalaya Basin Bridge | Louisiana
This bridge is also known as Airborne Memorial Bridge and consists of a pair of parallel bridges between Baton Rouge and Lafayette which carries Interstate 10 over the Atchafalaya Basin. This is the third longest bridge in the U.S. measuring at 29 290m (18.2 miles). It includes two exits, one for Whiskey Bay and one for Butte La Rose. The two parallel bridges are separated for most of the bridges length, merging at Whiskey Bay Pilot Channel and Atchafalaya River.
Atchafalaya Basin Bridge offers an interesting view over the swamps and desolated areas, crossing over a large watery expanse.
This bridge has a reputation for causing accidents frequently though, so the Governor Mike Foster lowered the speed limit in 1999 and in 2003 the Louisiana Legislature enacted new traffic regulations for the bridge.
9.Beipanjiang Bridge | China
Beipanjiang Bridge, also called the Duge Bridge is the highest in the world measuring at 565m of height and 720 m span as well as the first cable stayed bridge to ever hold the title of The World’s Highest Bridge. It was first opened in 2016, but the first time this project was brought up was in 2001 and the construction began in 2011.
The bridge crosses the Beipan river, connecting the provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou It shortens the journey between the two places from more than four hours' drive to about an hour.
This bridge has massive and impressive infrastructure, with four traffic lanes which offer breathtaking views but it was also a costly feat, as it was constructed in three years for the price of 144$ million.
8.Langkawi Sky Bridge | Malaysia
The Langkawi Sky Bridge was built in 2004 on top of the Machinchang mountain. The bridge is suspended from a 82m high single pylon, hanging at about 100m above ground and it can accommodate up to 250 people at the same time.
It swings over the landscape giving the visitors a new, unique view to otherwise unreachable parts of the jungle and it never gets boring because each step gives you a different sight to admire.
At 125m in length, this bridge is among the longest curve bridges in the world, but constructing it was no easy feat. There was a lot to be taken into consideration like the structural balancing from a single point (top of the pylon), optimal weight management and load distribution, pre-fabrication of bridge and on-site installation.
All of the elements required to build the bridge were lifted from atop of the mountain with a helicopter and assembled to its current position.
7.Pont Gustave-Flaubert | France
The Pont Gustave-Flaubert Bridge is a vertical lift bridge over the Senne in Rouen, France. It was first opened in September 2008 after four years of construction. The bridge itself cost approximately €60 million to build, but the approach roads and other infrastructure made the total cost €137 million. It was named after the famous 19th-century novelist Gustave Flaubert, who was born and died in Rouen.
It carries the title of the highest lift bridge in Europe. But even though it was expensive and a lot of hard work was put into it, it is not used that often since the shipping is afraid of being stuck in case of a failure and it is often criticized for not being useful or pleasing to the eye.
6.Gateshead Millennium Bridge | England
5.Trift Suspension Bridge | Switzerland
4.Octavio Frias de Oliveira Bridge | Brazil
3.Royal Gorge Bridge | USA
2.O'Callaghan–Tillman Memorial Bridge | USA
1.Eshima Ohashi Bridge | Japan
Eshima Ohashi Bridge, looking more like a roller-coaster than a bridge, connects Matsue, Shimane Prefecture and Sakaiminato Tottori Prefecture over Nakaumi lake. The construction took place from 1997 until 2004 and it`s the largest rigid-frame bridge in Japan and third largest in the world. It`s 1.7 kilometers long and 44.7 meters high.
This bridge became famous when the images of it started circulating the internet. From a short distance – as seen on the images – the bridge seems very steep and but in reality it is not, with a gradient of only 6.1% from the Shimane side and 5.1% on the Tottori side in order to allow ships to pass underneath it. Still, it`s a great tourist attraction and a challenge for those who never crossed it before."
