In a potentially major shift in force projection and naval doctrine, China has built what analysts believe is the world's first aircraft carrier for drones.

According to naval experts, the traditional aircraft carrier may already be obsolete, chiefly because of its staggering cost and its vulnerability. Drone carriers, by contrast, would be much smaller, faster, far less expensive, and require just a fraction of the crew. Yet they will still project power far beyond a nation's borders.
