"This all feels so special. All the women I love in one room." Kaleidoscope has debuted an official trailer for an indie film titled Tell That to the Winter Sea, launching to watch this month on VOD. The film is the latest sapphic romance from writer / director Jaclyn Bethany, telling the story of an old romance from years ago that digs up old feelings. Just a week before Jo gets married – she is reunited with Scarlet, rekindling their friendship and an ex-teen romance. Unresolved feelings still linger between them while the rest of the group enjoys the weekend away. With Jo about to embark on a new stage in her life, but struggling to let go of the past, she reflects with Scarlet on the young girls they once were, and the women they are becoming. This stars Greta Bellamacina as Jo, with Amber Anderson as Scarlet, plus Tamsin Egerton, Josette Simon, Jessica Plummer, and Bebe Cave. It looks like an emotional, heartfelt story about growing up.

Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jaclyn Bethany's Tell That to the Winter Sea, from YouTube:

Amber Anderson, Greta Bellamacina and Tamsin Egerton can be seen bonding in wedding dresses alongside co-stars Jessica Plummer, Josette Simon and Bebe Cave in first look images from upcoming feature “Tell That to the Winter Sea.”

Anderson (“Peaky Blinders”) and Bellamacina (“This England”) star in the film as Scarlett and Jo, two teenage dance students whose intense friendship blossoms into a romantic one before running its course. But when the duo reconvene decades later on the eve of Jo’s wedding – to a man – it turns out deep feelings still remain.

In another scene from the film, which was directed by Jaclyn Bethany, the group, still clad in wedding dresses, enjoy a candle-lit dinner.

Meanwhile Jo and Scarlett’s relationship is also explored in flashback sequences, one of which sees a brunette Bellamacina holding hands with Anderson, both wearing their school uniforms.

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution snapped up the film for the U.K. market and are repping international sales.

"You carry a Jedi weapon, but you are no Jedi." Disney+ has revealed a behind-the-scenes featurette for the Star Wars series called The Acolyte, which will start streaming in June. Showrun by Bachelorette and "Russian Doll" creator Leslye Headland. At the end of the High Republic era in a time of "shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers", approximately 100 years before The Phantom Menace. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes against Jedi, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. This series stars Amandla Stenberg as Mae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Margarita Levieva, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jedi master Indara, and Joonas Suotamo as Wookiee Jedi master Kelnacca. This video focuses on talented Korean actor Lee Jung-jae as Jedi master Sol (who they all refer to as "JJ"). His appearance in this series as Sol is one of the main reasons I'm excited to watch this. I dig him and I'm glad they gave him a seriously legit role in the Star Wars universe. Learn more below.

Another of their big summer action movie offerings coming up soon. Jessica Alba stars as a skilled Special Forces commando who takes ownership of her father's bar after he suddenly dies, and soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County, with the help of her covert ops partner / hacker Spider, and the connected local dealer Mike. The ensemble cast also includes Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, Anthony Michael Hall, Kaiwi Lyman, and Hari Dhillon. Emily Bader Saves Her Own Kingdom in 'My Lady Jane' Series Trailer
By Alex Billington
My Lady Jane Series Trailer
"What if history were different?!" Amazon's Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for a series titled My Lady Jane, arriving for streaming in June this summer. It's yet another of these spins on the damsel in distress trope by turning the ladies into the badass heroines who do the rescuing instead of being the one rescued (also see: Netflix's Damsel). History's most tragic heroines but re-imagined with an uplifting twist: the damsel in distress saves herself - and then the kingdom. This is adapted from the book of the same name about "The Lady Janies". Emily Bader stars as Lady Jane Grey, with an ensemble cast featuring Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O'Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Will Keen. At the center of this swashbuckling new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is shocked to be crowned queen and then finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)... My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure. This looks like a royally fun time! Nice rockin' song for this trailer, too. If this sounds like your jam, check it out.

Official Trailer for Australian Rock Doc 'Midnight Oil: The Hardest Line'
By Alex Billington
Midnight Oil: The Hardest Line Trailer
"The normal thing for a band to do would to be to keep on toward the bright, shining lights – but instead we went completely in another direction." Roadshow Films has revealed an official trailer for an Australian rock documentary film titled Midnight Oil: The Hardest Line, about popular Aussie rock band called Midnight Oil. This will be premiering at the 2024 Sydney Film Festival in just a few weeks before it opens in theaters in Australia right after (though no US release set yet). "Contrary. Passionate. Outspoken." Over 45 years Midnight Oil has helped shape modern Australia. This is their trailblazing story for the first time on film. Paul Clarke's doc Midnight Oil: The Hardest Line is the definitive story of the seminal Australian rock group tracing their origins from the politically charged atmosphere of the 1970s to their rise as global icons. The group was originally formed in Sydney in 1972, and launched their first album in 1978, playing reunion tours in 2005 and 2009. Once again, it's so great to see a successful band take a strong stance on politics and go against what is expected to push for real change (and help make progress in Australia). Worth a look.

Am I Ok? Trailer
"There's no timeline to figuring it out." Max has unveiled an official trailer for the indie film Am I Ok?, which is finally getting released this year. Lucy and Jane have been best friends for most of their lives and think they know everything there is to know about each other. Dakota Johnson stars as Lucy, and with Sonoya Mizuno as Jane, plus Jermaine Fowler, Kiersey Clemons, Molly Gordon, Sean Hayes, and Tig Notaro. I saw this at Sundance two years ago and enjoyed it quite a bit, it's sweet and charming and funny. Worth a look if this sounds good for you, too.

By Alex Billington
Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron Trailer
"He's traveling between reality & fantasy, and losing the ability to tell them apart." Another magnificent doc about Hayao Miyazaki has just debuted. The 2024 Cannes Film Festival is hosting a special series of events - starting out by giving filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli an Honorary Palme d'Or, along with screenings of a few special Ghibli short films and this never-before seen doc. Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron is a two-hour doc film version of the recent making of doc following animation master Miyazaki making his latest film The Boy and the Heron, which also won the Oscar earlier this year. Japan's NHK TV also aired a version of this doc called 2399 Days with Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli a few weeks ago. This special Cannes version is a "two-hour window into the heart of Hayao Miyazaki's creative process. The documentary follows six long years of work during the making of The Boy and the Heron." Rave reviews call it one of the most intimate & lovely looks at this legendary filmmaker yet, following up the other docs about him that have popped up over these last few years. I definitely need to see this doc - Miyazaki is the greatest.

Jean Reno in Adorable True Story 'My Penguin Friend' Official Trailer
By Alex Billington
My Penguin Friend Trailer
"You and DinDim have quite a friendship." Roadside Attractions has revealed a trailer for an adorable true story of a penguin and a fisherman. My Penguin Friend is directed by the Brazilian filmmaker David Schurmann, and it tells the story of a Brazilian fisherman who rescued a penguin and their bond. Starring French actor Jean Reno in the lead role as Joao. A heartbroken fisherman finds a penguin drifting alone in the ocean, drenched in oil from a spill. He not only rescues the sea creature, which migrates hundreds of miles ever year, but takes it under his wing – finding a sense of joy for the first time in years. The penguin and the fisherman become unlikely friends, so bonded that even the vast ocean cannot divide them. The cast also includes Adriana Barraza, Rocío Hernández, Nicolás Francella, Alexia Moyano, Thalma de Freitas, with Pedro Caetano and Pedro Urizzi. This seems charming and uplifting and cheesy in a very Hollywood way, telling another of these stories about humans & animals becoming friends. 🐧 Have a look.

Trailer #2 for Costner's Epic New Western 'Horizon: An American Saga'
By Alex Billington
Horizon: An American Saga Trailer #@
"That looks like a promising place... a place I might be able to see myself." Warner Bros has unveiled the second official trailer for Horizon: An American Saga, which is directed by, produced by, and starring Kevin Costner. The first movie in this two-part epic will debut at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival this week - hence this next trailer arriving now. The two westerns chronicle a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. The massive ensemble cast for Horizon: An American Saga includes tons of major actors: Kevin Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Michael Rooker, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Thomas Haden Church, Dale Dickey, and Jamie Campbell Bower, among others. After the success of "Yellowstone", I think Hollywood is hoping this will end up as one of the most successful westerns of the modern era. Can he pull it off? The first full trailer that arrived earlier in the year was seriously impressive, with some stunning footage of this sprawling saga. This new trailer isn't as good, but does have Costner getting into more fights.

Fascinating Trailer for HBO's 'MoviePass, MovieCrash' Documentary
By Alex Billington
MoviePass, MovieCrash Doc Trailer
"All of this was part of a bigger story." HOB has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled MoviePass, MovieCrash, another of these "rise and fall" business stories, this one about something that really hits close to home. MoviePass was a movie lover's dream, offering access to movie theater tickets at a discounted monthly subscription rate when it launched in 2017. However, the co-founders, who had built the pop culture phenomenon from scratch, were cast aside and forced to watch from the sidelines as new executives seized control. Produced by Mark Wahlberg, the doc film follows the meteoric rise and stranger-than-fiction implosion of theatrical movie subscription service MoviePass, and how they crashed & burned (spoiler: it was greed and dumb executives, like pretty much every other corporate downfall story). This doc profiles all of "the key players who, in peddling a false narrative and seeking to fly too high, created a wild ride that ended with hundreds of millions of dollars in lost value and the early demise of the now infamous company." Yep, it was never going to last, it was destined for failure. Always destroyed by the biz schmucks.
