Sacred Shore

On the banks of the Afon Teifi, on the Cardigan side, during medieval times, was discovered a mysterious wooden statue of Our Lady, with the child Christ on her lap. In her hand she bore a lighted candle that burned, it was reported, for 9 years - but looks like it could have been even longer.

"the sayd ymage wold not tarry there, but was found thre or fowre tymes in the place where now ys buyIded the church of our Lady, and the taper brunnynge in her hande, which contynued styll burnynge the space of nyne yeres without wastynge, untill the tyme that one foresware hymselfe thereon, and then it extincted and never burned after."

Ffraed acknowledges this sacred shore, and the spot where the figure was found.
