Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder involving chronic and recurrent abdominal pain and changes in bowel habit. Some of the hallmark clinical features of IBS include abdominal pain that co-occurs with changes in bowel habit, which includes diarrhea, constipation or an alternating of the two.
