The Rebuilding of a Deer Stand in the Cedars

This is a deer stand I built out of cedar rails, two by fours, and plywood in 2003 for my wife and son to deer hunt out of when he was 12 years old. About 2018 I built and installed ¼” x 2” x 2” steel X–bracing below the cedar rails to keep the wind from ripping the stand apart. As of 2024 it was getting pretty rough and needed some TLC, actually a complete rebuild, being I am older now, having a little more money and less time. I rebuilt it with all treated wood, including four by fours, two by fours, and even some ½’ plywood as I want this to be the last rebuild in my lifetime at 63 years of age this year time has been taking its toll on my body, climbing and reaching are getting more difficult every year. In the video things to notice: the new ladder rungs are much closer together to make climbing for children and elderly persons much easier, there is a lower stand to sit out in the elements and the house above which has an Uncle Josh propane heater in it. If you go back and watch some of my earlier posted late season hunting videos you will see me shoot some animals from this stand. I actually prefer sitting out in the open so I can hear, smell, & see the trees, wildlife, and surroundings better, but this enclosed stand is much nicer in inclement weather. Hope you enjoyed the picture video, if you have any questions or have a video you’d like me to make please comment, and I’ll do my best.
