Adventure Travel: Stunning Flagg Mountain Tower

In This Alabama Travel Adventure:
Flagg Mountain is located on the Weogufka State Forest in Coosa County, Alabama. Flagg Mountain also marks the beginning of the 170-mile-long Alabama Pinhoti Trail, and provides visitors a glimpse of a unique Alabama ecosystem – montane longleaf pine. At 1,152 feet high Flagg Mountain is one of the southernmost mountains along the eastern seaboard above 1,000'.

Tower: Flagg Mountain Lookout Tower is a unique 50 ft stone and timber tower that sits on the summit. The tower was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1935. The tower area is open to the public for picnics. Climb the stairs to the tower cab for spectacular 360° views of the surrounding mountains.

Flagg Mountain Trails: A half-mile path invites all to experience these tough-as-nails mountains while enjoying scenic views of the Coosa and Tallapoosa River valleys as well as the Talladega Mountain range. Over 7 miles of interconnected trails offer hikes for everyone, from seasoned hikers to those looking for an easy stroll.

Pinhoti Trail: The Pinhoti National Recreation Trail trailhead is located 1 mile east of the Tower on CCC Camp Rd. This is also the southern terminus of the Pinhoti Trail and provides the access to the Eastern Continental Trail, the Great Eastern Trail, and the Appalachian Trail. Other outdoor activities are available in the area.
