Former national economy minister of Kazakhstan, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, is facing charges for brutally murdering his wife, Saltanat Nukenova. Millions of Kazakhs as well as many people outside the country expressed their firm support for Saltanat's family and are urging for Bishimbayev to be punished as severely as the law allows. For Kazakhs, this case became a new precedent for demanding more action on the part of the authorities in preventing and appropriately punishing domestic violence.
