Japan and the US signed an agreement to jointly develop a new type of missile defence system. The deal was inked as the allies seek to defend against the growing arsenal of hypersonic weapons possessed by China, Russia and North Korea. Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida and US President Joe Biden had agreed to the project during their summit in August 2023
