While addressing a Lincoln Center audience at the 2018 Women In The World Summit in New York City last week, Crews expounded on masculinity as an exclusionary concept that doesn't really afford recognition of their humanity when accommodating women. The actor-turned-activist went as far as equating the way men are socialized to the way members of David Koresh and Jim Jones' cults were conditioned; making the world about their own ends.

“As a woman, they talk, but a guy is not looking at you as even all the way human. This is what you have to understand—there is a humanity issue here. [Women are] like, ‘Why don’t you hear me? Why don’t you see my feelings?’ And [men are] like, ‘But you’re not all the way human. You’re here for me, you’re here for my deal.’ It’s real,” Crews said to applause.

He went on to give an example of how such dynamics play out in the world, by highlighting the attitude men have when exploiting the labor of women who make a living in exotic dancing.
